Toni Poll-Sorensen, Ph.D., is an emerging artist whose passion for creating abstract art has flourished into a distinctive and vibrant body of work. Her artistic journey began with fluid art, a medium that captivated her early on, leading to the creation of over 100 pieces during the reflective period of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time allowed Toni to explore, experiment, and play with paint, setting the foundation for her evolving style.

Toni later began incorporating brushwork over her fluid art pours, creating a series inspired by sea life and mermaids, adorned with intricate dot patterns applied with brushes. This exploration evolved into paintings made exclusively with brushes, including a phase where she experimented with wide brushes to capture the full-body sensation of sweeping brushstrokes.

Most recently, Toni has returned to her signature dot technique, using Q-tips, dotting tools, toothpicks, and pencil tips to create highly textured acrylic paintings on canvas. While she occasionally experiments with watercolor, acrylics remain her primary medium. Her work features vivid colors and whimsical, thought-provoking themes, including abstract landscapes, sunrises, sunsets, beach scenes, and explorations of the female form and women’s issues. Her paintings, often described as tactile and textured, invite viewers to engage with their layered, dot-heavy surfaces—approximately 50 dots per square inch, with multiple layers creating a surface that begs to be touched. Toni’s playful approach often sees her work "escaping" the frame, embodying her love for coloring outside the lines.

Toni’s artistic roots trace back to her earlier career as a dancer, dance educator, and choreographer. As a child, she was told she lacked talent for drawing or painting, a belief she carried until later in life. Her creative spirit found expression through gardening, where she designed and cultivated 26 large gardens across three acres, likening the process to painting on a grand scale. Her love for collecting abstract art eventually inspired her to pick up a brush during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially influenced by Van Gogh, she transitioned to fluid art, where the paint’s unpredictable nature allowed her to blend intention with spontaneity. Her current dot-based technique, reminiscent of but distinct from pointillism, reflects her passion for texture and vivid expression.

Toni’s work has been showcased in several notable venues:

  1. Exhibitions sponsored by Art of Escapes in Orlando and Baldwin Park, FL, as well as The French Cafe and Nehrling Gardens in Winter Garden, FL.
