Terry Rieker

I am a retired educator, having taught art, drafting, architecture, and technology for 40 years at North Hagerstown High School and Smithsburg High School in Hagerstown, Maryland. I retired two years ago at the age of 69, after a fulfilling career that began when I was born in 1955 at Fort Jackson Army Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. My father's military service led us to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, before eventually settling in Maryland where I made my career.

My passion for the arts ignited in early childhood, evidenced by the elementary art pieces I still possess today. This love for creating extended into my personal life, paralleling my professional journey with a 40-year affinity for music as both a drummer and guitar player.

Last year, I embraced an opportunity to showcase my own work by participating in an art show alongside a fellow art teacher. I displayed 25 pieces, all oil on canvas, typically measuring 2 to 3 feet, finding great joy in sharing my creations with others.

Inspired by the vibrant art I've seen in galleries, I am eager to explore the possibility of displaying my work in new settings. My philosophy remains simple yet profound: "Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place.
