Diana Jacobs
Diana Jacobs – resin specialist
Diana Jacobs has mastered the art of bringing vibrant colors to her creations where “no two are ever alike.” Often inspired late at night if she can’t sleep, her energizing color combinations are also practical, taking the form of paintings, small tabletops, lazy Susan’s, desk clocks, pyramids, and Florida creatures such as snakes, turtles, and even the occasional octopus.
An interior decorator by trade, Diana taught herself to create art using epoxy resin in 2020. Prior to that she had a knack for creating beautiful wreaths for several years. What started out as displaying her work online and at Volusia County craft fairs, has blossomed into her being honored to showcase her work at Starry Night Gallery.
She said” I use a lot of liquid resin but sometimes I have powder too. You use your heat gun to blow the resin everywhere. It settles and gives a design. The resin is clear. You add the special resin colors. I do greens, blues, whites and keep a lot of the clear. It is more abstract. People give me gemstones, old jewelry. I use bling in my creations and dress it up. I add glitter. I use dragonflies in some of them; a lot of turtles I use. I love to do the ocean. Sometimes it takes three days to place each piece how I want it. I don’t have a form to follow.”
As to why she loves this art form and works so hard to create eye-catching creations, Diana said” I am in my own zone and it is actually very relaxing. I have classic rock music playing in the background but I cannot have interruptions because it messes my ’juju’ up. I can block everything out and just focus. A lot comes from the heart and my love of doing it.”
Originally from Dallastown, Pennsylvania, Diana now calls Port Orange home. She has two grown daughters, Amy and Angela. Besides her art, she is a popular karaoke singer, Veteran supporter, versatile cook, and exudes an unmatched love for animals with pets that include a fish, cats, and several bird varieties.
